EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES THROUGH EDUCATION

With an unwavering commitment to education and community development, Pofadder-born Jeremy Prins embodies the spirit and essence of the community he serves, in his role as Social Performance Coordinator for Konkoonsies II Solar.

As the main connection between the solar farm and the community, he is dedicated to driving positive change for the people of Pofadder, by implementing sustainable initiatives to improve the livelihoods of community members.

“I believe education is the most powerful tool to improve people’s livelihoods. Having a good education platform helps children to interpret life situations, develop critical thinking and make the best possible decisions to guarantee them a bright and successful future,” said Jeremy Prins, whose role includes acting as the community’s advocate, engaging with stakeholders and identifying needs and challenges.

As a member of the Pofadder community himself, Jeremy possesses a unique advantage in his role. His firsthand experience with the challenges faced by the community enables him to empathise and connect on a deeper level.

His journey with Konkoonsies II Solar began in 2019 as an Human Resources Administrator for the plant’s solar panel installation contractor. In 2021, he was appointed as the plant’s Social Performance Administrator, before being promoted to Social Performance Coordinator, in March of this year.

Jeremy believes that renewable energy is a vital component in securing a brighter energy future for the country, “Renewable energy is essential for South Africa’s better energy future. The increasing demand for alternative energy sources makes the future promising for the renewables industry.”
