SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO LOCAL YOUTH

Daverick Julius, a resident of Douglas in the Siyancuma Municipality, has been awarded a scholarship as part of the socio-economic development programme, to help fund his tertiary studies for the year 2023. This scholarship programme is intended to provide opportunities for local matriculants to pursue higher education and support their career development.

Currently enrolled in a three-year tertiary qualification in BSc Physical Science at Sol Plaatjie University, Daverick expressed his gratitude for the scholarship, “This scholarship means a lot to me and my family because it gives me a chance to further my education and fulfil my dreams. Without this support, none of this would be possible.”

Funded by Boikanyo Solar, the scholarship programme provides support to local students within the 50km radius of the solar facility, who pass their Matric examinations and who qualify to study an undergraduate degree or National Diploma at a recognized tertiary institution. As of now, three students are being funded as part of the programme.

“This programme is vital for young people as it provides an opportunity for community members to pursue higher education without worrying about the cost, thereby lifting the burden from parents who cannot afford tertiary fees,” stated Stephaline Fanie, Community Liaison Officer for Boikanyo.

In addition, to funding for the recipient’s chosen degree or diploma, the scholarship offers full tuition fees, full residence tuition and meals, book allowance, monthly allowance, and a brand-new laptop. Boikanyo Solar’s scholarship programme serves as an excellent opportunity for young people in the community who wish to pursue higher education but have limited access to funding.
