Romano teams up with Sunselex in solar park construction partnership
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA, 2nd MAY 2013
Romano Sustainable Solutions, one of South Africa’s most experienced solar photovoltaic (PV) systems integrators, and Sunselex AG, a Munich-based, international, full-service provider of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, today announced the formation of a jointly-owned company, Sunselex-Romano (Pty) Ltd, that will operate throughout sub-Saharan Africa as a solar PV systems integrator, providing a broad range of services that enable the realization of open-field, ground-mounted Solar PV projects.
Sunselex-Romano’s range of services will include plant design, project management, installation (of mounting structures, PV modules, cabling, combiner boxes, inverters and transformers), construction and commissioning of solar parks.
“We are very excited about joining forces with Sunselex, as this will not only enhance our respective companies’ growth, but will also benefit our larger, international EPC clients who need utility-scale solar PV construction services across sub-Saharan Africa”, said Romano’s CEO, Alexi Romano.
“The new partnership will combine our local knowledge and infrastructure, with Sunselex’ international experience in building solar parks”, added Romano.
”Romano and Sunselex combine great synergies, in terms of size, business approach to the market, and ethics. We explore our opportunities for a greater collective focus to develop in the South African solar PV market. “Both of our interests are geared towards maintaining and building on our reputation for quality excellence”, says Sunselex director, Thomas Konietzko.
However, Romano will retain and operate its rooftop and car port solar PV business independently of Sunselex, whereas Sunselex will continue to operate independently of Romano in its global markets.
The new partnership is a strong strategic fit, leveraging the two companies’ respective strengths, across three main areas:
- Firstly, Sunselex brings to the table its vast international experience, having planned, constructed and installed more than 300 PV systems and solar parks, with an installed capacity of more than 1.2 GWp, on four continents.
- Secondly, Romano with its 61-year history has successfully implemented many large-scale engineering-related projects, including solar PV, across sub-Saharan Africa.
- Finally, both partners have impressive client bases and combining these will certainly enhance the revenue potential of the new entity.
