LOCAL SCHOOL GRADUATES BENEFIT FROM BURSARY PROGRAMME

Nicole Adams (21) is a final year law student at the North-West University, currently pursuing an LLB degree, with ambitions to commence a masters (LLM) next year. As the youngest of five children and hailing from a small rural town in the Northern Cape, she is the second family member to have received a study bursary from Aries Solar Power and has big plans to use this opportunity to eventually specialise in Environmental Law.

Having attended Kenhardt High School, she was eligible for this bursary programme, which is the direct and sole beneficiary of the Aries Solar Power Bursary Programme. So, with the encouragement of her school science teacher, she followed in her sister’s footsteps and applied for financial study assistance.

The bursary covers Nicole’s tuition fees, book allowances, travel and accommodation costs, as well as day-to-day expenses through a stipend.

This programme was launched to provide the opportunity to local school graduates to gain a tertiary education, with the hope that once qualified, these young people will return home to the small town of Kenhardt and plough their skills back into this community, which is exactly what she plans to do.

“Although I originally intend to study Chemical Engineering, I chose law with the goal to combine two of my passions, which are law and science, in order to obtain a degree in Environmental Law.  Further along the road, I would like to return to Kenhardt and give back to this community,” said Nicole.

The Aries Solar Power Bursary programme, which commenced in October 2016, has already benefited twelve local youth, who are now studying at tertiary institutions including University of Stellenbosch; University of Western Cape; University of Pretoria; University of Free State; Cape Peninsula University of Technology; Hugenote College and the University of the North West.
