Energy Regulator Approves New Grid Capacity Allocation Rules
The Energy Regulator has approved new Grid Capacity Allocation Rules to enhance the governance of the national electricity grid. This decision, taken on 12 November 2025, includes:
- Approval of Rules: Formal adoption of the Grid Capacity Allocation Rules (Annexure A).
- Approval of Rationale: Endorsement of the Reasons for Decision document outlining the basis for this determination.
The new framework aims to create a fair, efficient, and transparent electricity market by:
- Standardizing and accelerating grid capacity allocation processes.
- Facilitating third-party access to transmission and distribution systems.
- Providing clear, sustainable criteria for licensees when allocating capacity.
- Balancing the interests of customers, licensees, investors, and the public.
