The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) is the voice of the solar PV sector in South Africa, representing members across the Solar PV value chain. Main Purpose of Role:
Drawing on a technical understanding of the South African Solar PV industry, the Junior Technical Specialist will support the SAPVIA Secretariat to undertake and support research objectives, conduct data collection, contribute to media and member technical responses and form part of the team leading thought positioning aligned with the SAPVIA strategy.

Main Responsibilities::
•Provide technical support to SAPVIA’s technical initiatives such as the PV GreenCard, installed capacity information, track registered generation facilities, localisation study and efforts.
•Provide technical responses to media, member, and public requests.
•Support the development and implementation of SAPVIA research objectives.

•Support with activities that interrogate national Solar PV technical standards and specifications and generate considered responses to such documents for members and wider stakeholder education.
•Project support of internal projects, workshops and/or webinars to ensure constructive dialogue primarily, for members’ benefits but also for all the stakeholders.
•Support with data and research for reports on industry’s latest trends and developments

Support the operation of SAPVIA Working Groups

SAPVIA has several working groups, the role includes:

•Provide technical and administrative support,
•Drive participation of representatives in key focus areas of working groups,
•Support working group chairs and members to manage key actions, objectives, and projects.

SAPVIA Research and Data Collection Support
SAPVIA collects and centralise important industry data including but not limited to:
socio-economic development, enterprise development, job creation, energy production, environmental monitoring, etc.

The role includes:
• Collection and presentation of publicly available data for market intelligence purposes.
• Liaison with relevant stakeholders and other data owners to improve the flow of data to the SAPVIA office.
• Support in the coordination of SAPVIA events, including networking events which advance the objectives of SAPVIA and its working groups.
• Support the creation of reports and presentations based on the data collected.
• Support research objectives related to various industry specific topics such as Solar PV & storage, role of Solar PV in the just energy transition, Solar PV market diversification (private PPAs), etc.
Contribute to achievement of SAPVIA Strategic objectives
• Use the research data responsibly to support industry positions.
• Support in the drafting of industry comments on policies impacting the Solar PV sector.
• Representing SAPVIA in external forums by attending events as needed.
• Performing any other duties as delegated by the CEO or Technical and Policy Manager.

Job requirements:
• Relevant bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Solar PV or Electrical Project Engineering experience.
• At least 2 years of relevant working experience.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Detail oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy.
• Highly organised and flexible.
• Ability to multitask and meet changing deadlines.
• Must be self-driven and able to complete projects with limited supervision.
• Experience or working knowledge of the South African Solar PV Industry.
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office and office management software.
