Renewable energy projects picking up steam

GLOBAL wind and solar power developer Mainstream Renewable Power turned the sod on a 138MW wind energy plant in Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, on Monday, group CE Eddie O’Connor said. This is the latest start among a number of renewable energy projects approved in the first “window” of the Department of Energy’s Independent Power Producer procurement programme, which is expected to supply South Africa with 3,725MW of power by 2016.
