Positive Community Collaboration Empowers Local Learners with Rechargeable LED Lights

Boshof, 4 November 2024

Around 200 Grade 11 learners from Boshof received rechargeable LED lights last Friday, 25 October, at a handover event hosted by Boshof Solar Power. This initiative, undertaken in response to a request from the Tokolokgo Municipality, will support students from Boshof Combined School and Aramela Combined High School, in their studies, addressing local energy challenges.

High unemployment has placed a strain on households, often limiting students’ resources to effectively study at home. As these Grade 11 students approach matriculation, the LED lights are expected to help them continue studying uninterrupted, even during power outages.

Ward Councillor Tshepo Molale, representing the Tokolokgo Municipality, praised the initiative: “I want to express our gratitude to Boshof Solar Power for this wonderful initiative. Providing these portable solar lights to our Grade 11 learners means they can study anytime, even during power outages, and in a way that doesn’t disrupt their families. This support reaches areas where the municipality’s resources fall short, and it shows the positive impact that collaboration can have in our communities. On behalf of the Tokolokgo Local Municipality, thank you, and we look forward to more initiatives like this in the future.”

Noluthando Mazibuko, Economic Development Specialist at Boshof Solar Power, closed by saying, “This highlights our commitment to sustainable, community-driven development, improving education outcomes amidst challenging circumstances.”
