LOCAL ENTREPRENEUR GAINS SPOTLIGHT THROUGH BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Onseepkans, 20 October 2025
Recognised for her drive and commitment to her small business, Onseepkans entrepreneur Veronica Bostander recently had the opportunity to showcase her services at the Khai-Ma Entrepreneurial Day, gaining valuable exposure to community members and potential business partners.
“I was proud to attend the Khai-Ma Entrepreneurial Day, where I felt recognised as a successful local entrepreneur. The event gave me valuable exposure to new clients and potential stakeholders that I may collaborate with in the future, for the benefit of my general store,” shared Veronica, owner of Veron’s General Dealer in Viljoensdraai, Onseepkans.
Through her business, Veronica serves clients across the Onseepkans region and has grown from zero income to achieving an admirable monthly turnover. Clients have come to rely on her services daily, and her braai plates have become a popular favourite at local sports events.
The opportunity to exhibit at this event and gain valuable market exposure, came through Veronica’s participation in a local development programme, the Grassroots Enterprise Development Programme, funded by Engie’s Konkoonsies II solar PV facility.
“From day one, Veronica has been fully dedicated to the training programme. She actively applies her learning and follows the guidance of her business mentor. Her strong financial discipline, effective marketing, accurate recordkeeping, and strict stock control has all contributed to her business’ steady financial growth,” explained Jeremy Prins, Social Performance Coordinator at the solar facility.
As a beneficiary of this programme, which is designed to nurture small startup businesses within the Khai-Ma Municipality, Veronica is benefiting from practical skills in marketing, branding, and financial management, alongside mentorship and grant funding support.
“In addition to our programme, the support of the Khai-Ma Municipality is crucial to small business development. By providing entrepreneurs like Veronica with access to new clients and potential stakeholders, these events help them grow their businesses and ultimately create lasting economic opportunities that benefit the entire region,” concluded Prins.
Together with Veronica, another 16 entrepreneurs benefit from the programme. Their businesses represent a wide range of industries, including retail, construction, catering and baking, event planning and coordination, general trading, carpentry, poultry, photography, and beauty.
