Launch of SAPVIA BESS Working Group
Dear SAPVIA Member,
We are pleased to announce the official launch of the SAPVIA Battery Energy Storage Systems Working Group (BESS WG), which will take place on Monday, 23 March 2026, from 13h30 to 14h30.
The BESS WG has been established to strengthen SAPVIA’s advocacy mandate and to play a leading role in shaping policy, regulation, and technical guidelines for the battery energy storage sector in South Africa.
The Working Group will focus on Advocacy, Policy, and Unlocking Barriers, with priorities to map the local BESS landscape, develop a national deployment roadmap, engage stakeholders to create an enabling investment environment, advocate for improved incentives and financing, and support standardised permitting processes.
This represents an important step in advancing energy storage within South Africa’s energy transition and supporting a clear, enabling industry framework.
We encourage members to participate in and contribute to this important work.
