JUWI Surpasses 1 GW of Renewable Energy Under Construction as Global Solar PV Portfolio Exceeds 900 MW
Renewable energy developer JUWI has reached a milestone of 1 GW of renewable energy capacity under simultaneous construction across its global project portfolio, reflecting the company’s expanding presence in the solar and wind energy sectors.
The company said it is currently installing around 1.3 million solar modules across 12 photovoltaic (PV) projects and constructing 46 wind turbines with a combined capacity of approximately 270 MW. Overall, nearly 1 GW of additional renewable energy capacity is expected to be commissioned in the coming months.
JUWI Chief Executive Officer Jost Backhaus said the achievement demonstrates the company’s engineering, planning, and project execution capabilities as construction activities continue across multiple international markets.
The milestone coincides with the start of solar module installation at the Trifylli solar park in northern Greece, part of the 156 MW Clover PV portfolio being developed for investor Mirova. The portfolio comprises four solar projects scheduled for commissioning by next year. Across Greece, JUWI is currently constructing seven PV projects with a combined capacity exceeding 400 MW.
The company noted that construction activities in Greece have required continuous design modifications after archaeological discoveries at several project sites. According to JUWI, its engineering and implementation teams have worked to minimise project delays while complying with heritage preservation requirements.
In Africa, JUWI is nearing completion of the Grande Côte Operation PV hybrid project in Senegal for mining company Eramet. The project, located around 100 km northeast of Dakar, includes a 20.3 MW solar PV plant integrated with an 11.12 MW battery energy storage system (BESS).
Meanwhile, construction remains underway on three large-scale solar projects in South Africa with a combined installed capacity of approximately 350 MW.
In Germany, wind energy continues to represent the company’s largest revenue-generating business. JUWI is currently constructing 46 wind turbines across 11 sites in Brandenburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and North Rhine-Westphalia, adding around 270 MW of new wind generation capacity.
The company is also preparing additional renewable energy projects in the United States and Italy following the commissioning of major solar developments in both countries.
In the United States, JUWI commissioned the 186 MW Axial Basin Solar project in Moffat County, Colorado, and the 141 MW Dolores Canyon Solar project in Dolores County, Colorado.
In Italy, JUWI Energie Rinnovabili S.r.l. commissioned a 41.7 MW solar park in Sardinia and another large-scale photovoltaic project in Loreo, Rovigo, south of Venice. The Sardinia project encountered archaeological discoveries, including remains believed to date back approximately 6,000 years, requiring construction adjustments. At the Loreo project, engineers addressed challenging soft-soil conditions associated with the region’s coastal marshland during development.
JUWI said the ongoing construction portfolio builds on more than 30 years of renewable energy development experience, during which the company has planned and constructed over 3.5 GW of wind power capacity and more than 4 GW of solar PV capacity worldwide.
