SAPVIA announces Grid Access Sub-Committee

On the 13th of June 2012 SAPVIA announced the members of it’s new Grid Access Sub-Committee. Congratulations to the following people:

  • Sipho Madonsela: Emzansi Engineers (Chairperson)
  • Gareth Warner: Momentous Energy (Vice-Chairperson)
  • Lee Smith: 3E
  • Christopher Burghardt: First Solar
  • Ahmed Rahme: SMA
  • Dom Wills: Aurora Power Solutions
  • Thinus van As: Solaire Direct
  • Hein Swart: Tenesol
The decision to establish the Grid Access Sub-Committee was a result of SAPVIA’s first official meeting with Eskom’s Grid Access Unit – a unit has been specifically set up to deal with requests from renewable (and other) projects wanting to connect to the Eskom transmission or distribution network. The primary focus of the initial meeting was to introduce SAPVIA and to set up regular feedback meetings were industry and Eskom are able to communicate current issues being faced, future development plans, changes to existing legislation/regulation, technical standards and developments on any other matters that might be applicable.
SAPVIA’s Grid Access Sub-committee has been tasked to officially manage this communication process, namely attending meetings once every two months at Megawatt Park, setting the agendas for these meetings (by surveying SAPVIA’s membership base for input), and feeding back the minutes of the meeting timeously to the association.
